Finance Montréal launches seventh edition of Canada Fintech Forum and welcomes Bloomberg’s Peter T. Grauer as featured speaker

Eight start‐up finalists to compete for grand prize of $1 million in financing

Montréal, Québec, October 15, 2019 – The Canada Fintech Forum, the country’s largest Fintech event, will take place this coming October 21 to 23 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Close to 120 international speakers will be there to share their ideas on the theme “Aligning Client and Technology in the Digital Finance Era.” Peter T. Grauer, Chairman of the Board of Bloomberg, will give a talk on the evening of October 22.

In the words of Matthieu Cardinal, Vice‐President, Fintech Development and Corporate Affairs, Finance Montréal, and President of the 2019 Canada Fintech Forum organizing committee, “The Canada Fintech Forum has become a reference is the North American Fintech ecosystem, a real pivot for finance and technology industry players. The Canada Fintech Forum grows in scope each year, in terms of both the presence of international players and the diversity of the innovations presented. Montréal’s vitality and talent pool increasingly position it as a rising Fintech center.”

Paul Desmarais III, Chairman and CEO of Sagard Holdings, Executive Chairman and Co‐Founder of Portag3 Ventures, and Chairman and co‐founder of Diagram, will chair the 2019 edition of the Canada Fintech Forum. “The Canada Fintech Forum is a must‐attend for anyone active or interested in the financial technology space. Beyond the stellar program, it is a gathering that promotes networking and cooperation between investors and start‐ups for the benefit of the entire sector.”

The Fintech start‐up pitch contest will be an opportunity for nine finalists to present their innovations to the financial community and investors. They will have a chance to win a $1 million financing offer from Portag3 Ventures, a $25,000 cash prize from Finance Montréal, $5,000 in rent at the Montréal FinTech Station, $5,000 in legal services from McCarthy Tétrault and a variety of other services.

The latest financial innovations will be on display in the Deloitte Techno Zone, an immersive exhibition area that allows visitors to discover and interact with the most recent technological inventions.

For the second year in a row, Finance Montréal has partnered with the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship to offer a masterclass on today’s hottest topic, open banking. The masterclass will combine online training and a seminar during the Canada Fintech Forum.
